HOMEOPATHY FOR BACK PAIN

RHUS TOXICODENDRON

Back pain from muscle strain, overstraining, overstretching or from lifting heavy weight. Pain worse from rest, better from walking, hard pressure.

KALI CARBONICUM

Backache affected in the lower part of the back and extends down in to the back of legs and is worse in morning. It is usually seen in pregnant women and after delivery.   Prolonged walking causes backache and the patient has to rest after walking for few minutes.

BRYONIA ALBA

Back pain worse from slightest motion and better by rest and pressure or lying on a hard substance.  Stiffness of the back.

AESCULUS HIPOCASTANUM

 Back pain in the lower region due to constipation and piles. It is also useful for backache after hard labour.  The pain is relieved by standing. Backache also occurs due to hard work. Person with backache requiring Aesculus cannot bend forward as it causes excruciating pain.

ARNICA MONTANA

Back pain after over exertion, sprain, and injuries. There is great soreness and lameness in the back, back feels as if it was beaten with sticks.

COBALTUM METALLICUM

 Back pain in back and sacrum, which is worse while sitting and better by walking or lying. Pain from the lower back may radiate down the legs and feet.

COLOCYNTHIS

Backache due to lumbar spondylosis where pain from lower back radiates down the left leg. The pain may be cramp-like, shooting, drawing or tearing in nature. Pressure over painful area provides relief. Lying on the left side also helps to relieve the pain. In some cases, heat application on the leg brings relief. 

GNAPHALIUM POLYCEPHALUM

 Back pain radiating down the legs and numbness in legs. Resting on the back brings relief from back pain. Flexing the thigh on abdomen also provides relief.

HYPERICUM PERFORATUM

 Back pain with nerve involvement. Disc or the bony spurs impinge on the nerves and the pain radiates to the lower limbs. Hypericum per. can relieve the pain as well as the muscle spasm. Violent pain and inability to walk or stoop after a fall on coccyx.

MAGNESIUM PHOS 

 Back pain in the lower back radiates down the right leg. The pain radiating down the leg may vary from sharp, cutting, stabbing, lightening-like in nature. The pain appears intermittently or in paroxysms. Hard pressure or warm application over the painful part brings relief.

BERBERIS VULGARIS

Berberis vulgaris is effective for backache due to stones in the kidney and due to urinary troubles. Pain radiates in all directions with numbness.  Pain and numbness in back during menses.

CIMICIFUGA RACEMOSA

Back pain due to uterine troubles. Spine very sensitive especially upper part. Stiffness and contraction in neck and back. Pain in lumbar region, down thighs, and through hips. Crick in back.

NUX VOMICA

 Lumbar pain due to lifting. It occurs commonly persons having a sedentary life, the modern lifestyle where physical activity is little while mental stress is too much and the patient is chilly and constipated. Pain is worse in winters. Back pain in the bed on lying. Must sit up or turn side.

PHOSPHORUS

Back pain is attended with burning sensation in the spine. The back feels as if it would break from pain. Weakness in the back is also observed.

SILICEA

Back pain with degenerative changes in the bones occurs. These changes may be osteoarthritic forming bony spurs or they may concern the discs. Any exposure to cold air can bring on the pain. The patient feels better in warmth and in the summer weather.

OVA TOSTA

Back pain with leucorrhoea. There is a feeling as if the spine was broken and wired or tied together with a string

ANTIMONIUM TART

Back pain due to fatigue especially in the lower back. Any movement may cause vomiting.

STAPHYSAGRIA

Back pain occurs after sexual excesses or on indignation. It is worse in the morning after rising.

RUTA GRAVEOLENS

 Back pain caused by straining of back muscles or ligaments . The pain is due to   lifting of weights or overreaching to objects causing sudden straining of back.
